The Secret Garden

The Secret Garden

When Mary Lennox’s parents die she is given into the care of her uncle Archibald Craven, whom she has never met. She travels to his home, Misselthwaite Manor, in gloomy Yorkshire, a vast change from the sunny and warm climate she was used to. When she arrives, she is rude and stubborn. However, as she begins to explore both the Manor and its gardens Mary unlocks many secrets. She finds a purpose and an excitement in her lonely existence as she brings a hidden garden back to life and discovers Colin, her cousin, in his concealed bedroom…

The Secret Garden is a tender and fascinating glimpse into the journey from childhood to maturity. It is a story of mystery and transformation.

The Secret Garden is one of the most enduring and beloved classics of children’s literature. Written by Frances Hodgson Burnett in 1910, it was first serialized in an adult magazine ‘The American’ before being turned into a novel a year later. The popularity of this novel bears witness to its universal appeal and its timeless hold on the imagination.
