The Only Way is Suffrage

The Only Way is Suffrage

I want more than votes for women. I want somebody decent for women to vote for!' The year is 1911. The suffragettes are breaking the law by boycotting the census: ‘If women don’t count, neither shall they be counted’. Yet this is not a story of women united in rebellion, but of the internal struggles faced by the working class within the suffrage movement. For servant Bathsheba, suffrage is just the beginning - but before she can dismantle the patriarchy, she must challenge the prejudices closer to home. A new play by Charlotte Delaney, writer-in-residence at Oxford Women in Humanities, The Only Way is Suffrage is being brought to life for the first time in the Burton Taylor studio.
