STRING PORTRAITS

STRING PORTRAITS

Corona Strings
Leader: Catherine Leech
Conductor: Janet Lincé

The programme includes a rare performance of Grace Williams’s dramatic Sea Sketches of 1944 which portray the seas off her native Wales in all their different moods. Two contrasting sets of Aquarelles by Delius and the Spanish composer Lopez—Chávarri are complemented by Benjamin Britten’s early work, Two Portraits, featuring solo viola, Britten’s own instrument, and by Grieg’s ever-popular set of Baroque-style dances composed in honour of Ludvig Holberg.

This concert of music inspired by Art is given in association with Oxford Art Society.

Duration: 1 hour 45mins with interval
