Handel’s Youthful Exuberance

Handel’s Youthful Exuberance

An evening of sparkling arias and instrumental works

Oxford’s own period orchestra, Instruments of Time and Truth, directed by harpsichordist, Christopher Bucknall, are joined by the stunning Irish soprano Anna Devin for an evening exploring the glorious virtuosity and sensuousness of Handel’s early compositional output.

The centrepiece of this programme is Handel’s ravishing extended cantata, Il Delirio Amoroso, written during the composer’s sojourn in Italy. It features dazzling vocal writing for the soprano and extraordinarily colourful instrumental writing for a sizeable ensemble. Alongside this, IT&T perform Concerti Grossi written by Handel’s teacher, Arcangelo Corelli, and a wonderful instrumental sonata by Handel himself showing the profound influence that Corelli had on his composition.
