A Grade I, G.F. Bodley designed church and adjoining cloister that forms part of St Stephen's House, a Permanent Private Hall of the University.
Recently updated as a concert venue, SJE has underfloor heating and new lighting, comfortable chairs, a new toilet block, staging, and a Steinway D concert grand piano. The acoustic is superb.
SJE is on the Iffley Road opposite the University Sports Ground. Buses from Oxford city centre stop directly outside. Buses from London stop five minutes' walk away in St Clement's.

The choir is joined by cellist Nick Roberts to highlight the unusual and beautiful sound-world of chamber choir with solo cello. Bach’s motet Ich lasse Dich nicht, Richard Rodney Bennett’s A Farewell to Arms, Brahms’ moving Fünf Gesänge (Op 104) and John Tavener’s haunting Svyati are amongst the works in this evocative programme which will also feature music by Kodaly, Gjeilo, Parry and Rheinberger for a capella choir, and movements from the great cello suites of J S Bach.
