Dame Sarah Connolly

In conversation with Oxford Festival of the Arts Director, Dr Michelle Castelletti

It is a real privilege to be discussing some of the most important issues in arts and education with Dame Sarah Connolly, while we gain insight into her life and passions. The evening will be illustrated by excerpts from some of her most glorious performances, such as Handel’s Giulio Cesare, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Mahler lieder and even some jazz!

Sarah Connolly needs no introduction. She was made a DBE in the 2017 Birthday Honours, having previously been made a CBE in the 2010 New Year’s Honours. In 2011, she was honoured by the Incorporated Society of Musicians and presented with the Distinguished Musician Award. She is the recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society’s 2012 Singer Award.

Highlights in Dame Sarah’s 2018/19 season include Fricka in Das Rheingold and Die Walküre for the Royal Opera and Teatro Réal in Madrid, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with Jurowski (RundfunkSinfonieorchester Berlin & London Philharmonic Orchestra), Mahler Symphony No. 8 (Wiener Symphoniker/Jordan), Des Knaben Wunderhorn (Orchestre national de Paris/Saraste) and Tippett’s A Child of our Time (Orchestre de Paris/Adès).

She will be giving recitals at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Katowice Festival in Poland, Zeist Festival, Netherlands and the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. Dame Sarah will also be curating a Residency at Wigmore Hall.
