Choros Conductor, Janet Lincé
Copland, In the beginning
Pärt, Seven Magnificat Antiphons
Whitacre, When David heard
Spirituals arranged by Hogan, Jennings and Washburn
Following its hugely successful performances here of Bach’s Passions, Choros returns to SJE with its unique blend of rich tone, vocal clarity and strong individuality of sound to perform this programme of choral masterpieces.
Copland’s amazing setting of the Creation story, In the beginning, heads this programme on the theme of the dawn and dusk of life. Arvo Pärt’s inspired setting of the widely known Christmas Antiphons – Sieben Magnificat Antiphonen – provides a powerful contrast to Whitacre’s deeply moving motet When David heard and the concert will end with the choir’s hallmark rendition of beautiful spirituals.
