On the 14th of July, Bastille Day, we mark the fall of the Ancien Régime with music that defined it. This evocative programme, curated by Edward Higginbottom, draws together the sacred and the profane from the court and chapel of pre-Revolutionary France, performed on period instruments by an ensemble of haute-contre, two violins, basse de viole, and clavecin.
