Edward Higginbottom, Oxford's leading figure in early French music has curated this special programme exploring Miserere mei in settings for high voices by Richard
Delalande and Louis-Nicolas Clérambault. The solo lines of these highly evocative settings are set to form their own exquisite tracery across the vaults of Oxford's
greatest ecclesiastical building. Few works of the period speak more powerfully of the French way with vocal writing: a form of passionate and elevated speech,
perhaps the most distinctive contribution of the French to musical manners of the 18th century.
