City of Oxford Choir

Nocturne

A candlelit evening for choir and saxophone

Tickets £18

The City of Oxford Choir (directed by Duncan Aspden) and Alzbeta Greenwood-Byrne present Nocturne, a concert for chamber choir and saxophone.

In 1994, the Hilliard Ensemble collaborated with the saxophonist Jan Garbarek to release an album “Officium”, which combined early Renaissance music with improvised instrumental lines to hypnotic effect. It was a sensation and sold well over a million copies. Nocturne, performed with Alžbeta Greenwood-Byrne (saxophone), will incorporate the haunting opening track from that disc, add a sequence of contemporary music written for this most unusual combination, and also some familiar atmospheric choral delights. The concert is presented by candlelight in the most apt surroundings of Blackfriars Chapel, St Giles, Oxford.

With music by Tallis, Morales, Will Todd, Patrick Hawes, Rheinberger, Christian Forshaw, Palestrina and Robert White.
