Mozart Requiem

Tickets £15

An orchestra performing in a church

East Oxford Community Choir and Orchestra are joined by singers and players from Oxford’s twin cities Bonn and Leiden for what promises to be an exhilarating performance of Mozart's Requiem and Rutter's Magnificat. The Requiem, probably the best- loved of all Mozart's works, was composed at the very end of his life, in 1791, and was only half-written at his death, but was completed by fellow-composer Franz Süssmayr. John Rutter was inspired by the celebrations in Spain and Latin America surrounding the feast days of the Virgin Mary, involving processions and singing and dancing in the streets, describing his Magnificat (1990) as 'a bright Latin-flavoured fiesta'. He added an old English poem, 'Of a Rose' to the liturgical text. The works will be conducted by Dexter Drown.
