Award-winning pianist Ivana Gavrić presents a programme of music composed between the end of the 19th Century up until the First World War. Ravel's unique Tombeau de Couperin was written between 1914 and 1917 in memory of six fallen friends, but capturing the lighter sides of their characters in the Baroque dance style of François Couperin. Tonight's programme pairs this with Janáček's wistful In the Mists composed in 1912, Cecile Chaminade's beautiful miniature Autrefois dating from 1897, and four of Rachmaninov's iconic preludes, composed between 1892 and 1910.
