Summertown Choral Society

Handel’s Messiah

Tickets £15

Summertown Choral Society

Conductor: Duncan Saunderson, who writes:

“Handel is the greatest composer that ever lived”, “He is the master of us all” and “Handel understands effect better than any of us” said Beethoven, Haydn and Mozart respectively after hearing Messiah.

Almost miraculously written in 24 days, it is one of the greatest masterpieces in Western music. Handel’s aim was not only to entertain but to make people better. It is impossible not to be uplifted by the sheer beauty and energy of the work.

Summertown Choral Society will be joined by the sublime Instruments of Time and Truth and four of the finest young soloists in the country: Elspeth Piggott (soprano), Mercè Bruguera Abelló (mezzo soprano), Tom Kelly (tenor) and Brian McAlea (bass).

Early booking is essential.

Please note, Summertown Choral Society expects audience members to be fully vaccinated (unless exempt) and to confirm verbally that they have taken a Lateral Flow Test on the day of the concert. Audience members are also required to wear a face covering at all times within the church (unless exempt) and maintain some social distancing. The event is being sold to a reduced capacity to enable more spacing. The church will also be well ventilated.
