Jubilate Chamber Choir

Hallelujah Junction: Brahms, Adams and Dove

Tickets £15

A choir performing in a church

Lush Romanticism meets pared-back Minimalism in a genre-bending junction of music for two pianos and choir, featuring two of Oxford’s finest pianists.

Part of Somerville College's Festival of the Piano, JUBILATE welcomes pianists Ian Tindale and Sam Mitchell to present seminal works for chorus and pianos, in a rare opportunity to hear Jonathan Dove's The Passing of the Year and Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem in their two-piano, four-hands versions. The programme is rounded off with John Adams' extraordinary journey for two solo pianos, Hallelujah Junction.

One of Oxford's top chamber choirs, JUBILATE continues to carve out a distinctive niche in the city's crowded choral scene with imaginatively-programmed and powerfully executed concerts, directed by Helen Smee. In recent years the choir's repertoire has encompassed a wide range of music from renaissance polyphony to the contemporary, via Eastern Orthodox sacred works, forgotten 19th century gems and more. With a continuing commitment to new music and accompanied by some of Oxford finest professional musicians, the choir celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025.
