Prize-winning Dutch reed quintet Calefax (oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon) is ‘five extremely gifted Dutch gentswho almost make the reed quintet seem the best musical format on the planet’ (The Times). Touring across the world, their repertoire spans a history of music from renaissance to jazz. In addition to the pieces listed, their arrangement of selections from a Debussy Prelude, Etudes Op39 No2 ‘Comme le vent’ by Alkan and their performance of ‘Le tourne-disque antique’ for reed quintet by Germanus will feature in a highly creative programme.
