The acclaimed pianist and composer Jack Gibbons has been performing his highly popular annual Oxford Summer Piano Series without a break since 1988. Hailed by Classic FM as “one of the world’s greatest Gershwin exponents”, Jack Gibbons tonight plays one of the programmes that sold out the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London during Gibbons’ 16 year run of Gershwin concerts in the nation’s capital. The programme includes Gershwin’s immortal Rhapsody in Blue and authentic recreations of Gershwin's original show-tune improvisations, as recorded by the composer in the 1920s, interspersed with the music of Gershwin’s friends and contemporaries, from Sergei Rachmaninoff to Irving Berlin.
