Agency sales for the Oxford Playhouse box office moved from the occasional sale of pre-printed tickets to a more established footing in 1994 when the Playhouse was asked to act as the box office for Music at Oxford.
Following the demise of the Oxford Box Office at Dillons Bookshop a number of other promoters began to use the Playhouse for at least some of their sales when, just before 2000, the Playhouse took over the franchise of the box office at Blackwell’s Music Shop. This was an established outlet for the sale of most tickets for the many classical music events that take place at many venues around Oxford.
For operational and staffing reasons the Playhouse relinquished the franchise of the Ticket Shop deciding to concentrate on agency sales through the then PASS system, and now Patron’s Edge system. As Blackwell’s opted not to continue the franchise (and shortly after relocated the Music Shop to smaller premises) the box office took on the majority of business from the Ticket Shop.
In 2001 the agency was branded as Tickets Oxford at the Oxford Playhouse to give the agency a separate identity to the Playhouse and allow promoters a logo to use on their publicity.
