Fri 8 Dec, Christ Church
This twelfth century church is amongst the oldest buildings in Oxford, and one of the smallest Anglican cathedrals in England. It is also the only church in the world to be both a cathedral and a college chapel. Music plays an important part in the life of the Cathedral, and its choir sings throughout each week during term time. During the University vacations, many services are sung by the Cathedral Singers, a voluntary choir of both men and women. The Cathedral also plays host to many other choirs and concerts from around the world.
Capacity: up to 1000
Facilities: No parking facilities. Disabled access.
Now in its 21st year, this celebrity carol concert, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and fondly referred to as the event that starts the Christmas Season, will again be held in the atmospheric splendor of Christ Church Cathedral.
Join us for an uplifting musical evening featuring festive music and readings from the world class Blenheim Singers conducted by Tom Hammond-Davies, a guest Chorister from New College Oxford and a star-studded list of celebrity readers* including Jeremy Irons, Joanna Trollope and Prue Leith.
A Celebration of Christmas is run entirely by volunteers to raise funds to support a Macmillan nurse in Oxfordshire.
We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be an unforgettable evening. Early booking is recommended.
… there’s nothing like singing carols at the top of your voice, as part of a large congregation, to immerse you in that warm, Christmas glow!
